Hello Donuteers,
Being a west coast guy, I have never had the pleasure of trying Tim Hortons’ donuts, an Ontario, Canada based company. On July 13, 2009, they opened up 9 more restaurants in New York to compete for America’s waistline along with Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks. I checked out Tim Hortons’ website and they have all sorts of goodies. They seem to make use of what fruits are in season and make specialty donuts. If anyone has had the pleasure of visiting and eating at a Tim Horton’s I would love to get some feedback. I hear they have these donuts called Timbits which are the equivalent to donut holes in the US that are to die for.

Check out Dunkin’ Donuts new commercial for their breakfast menu. You get a breakfast menu item for 99 cents if you buy their medium or large coffee. “It’s Breakfast not Brokefast.”

Apparently robbers do have a conscience. A teen robber returned the $167 he took from a Dunkin Donuts in Chicago. He even tried to hug the woman at the register who he held up the previous day. His apology got him a 7 year maximum. I guess the moral of the story is: you can do whatever you want in life, even rob people, if you apologize the next day.
Kids, don’t try this at home.

Hello Donuteers,
Sorry its been awhile since my last update, I have been busy working on my move to my official website, www.Donutstud.com. I have special news to inform everyone. The first Friday in June is National Donut Day! This year it so happens National Donut Day is tomorrow, June 5th. I did a little research regarding National Donut Day and wanted to give a little history about this day. According to Wikipedia, National Donut Day started in 1938 as a fund raiser for the Chicago Salvation Army. It was to help the needy during the great Depression, and to honor the Salvation Army “Lassies” of World War I, who served donuts to soldiers behind the front line in France. Now you have even more of a reason to indulge on this special day.
So you might want to check out your local donut shop to see if they are giving away any free goodies. Krispy Kreme is giving away a free donut to each of their customers and Dunkin’ Donuts is offering a free donut with a purchase of a beverage.

Hello Donuteers,
It has been a while since we last shared a donut experience together, so what better way to to get back on track with a post about one of the most famous donut shops across the country, Randy’s Donuts in Los Angeles! If you have ever visited Los Angeles, this is a place you need to stop by. Randy’s Donuts is special because the donuts are delicious, a colossal donut sits on top of the store, and has made numerous cameo appearances in movies. This truly makes it a unique Los Angeles landmark. I heard even Iron Man made a “pit stop” during the filming of Iron Man 2.
The Mother of All Donuts!
On this occasion at Randy’s Donuts, which conveniently has 2 drive thru windows on each side of the store for your donut fix, I decided to get a chocolate yeast donut, a sugar donut, an apple fritter, and a bear claw. I decided to go overboard since I was so excited to finally get to try this place. The regular donuts are 75 cents while the fancies were 1 dollar, tax included! The donuts were all fairly good sizes. Both the chocolate donut and the sugar donut were super soft and airy when I took my first bite. This was a pleasant surprise since I went on a Sunday afternoon. They are open 24 hrs a day so I’m assuming they make fresh donuts throughout the day.

The apple fritter had a nice crusty frosting all around with little chunks of apple laced throughout the donut. The breading for the fritter was soft inside while the frosting just melted in your mouth. The bear claw was frosted on the outside with a similar taste to the apple fritter but the donut was stuffed with little chunks of apple cinnamon filling on the inside.

I will definitely be back here to sample all their other flavors such as Devil’s Food Cake which they unfortunately at the time had run out of. The lady who helped us out was super nice but she was a one woman team as she had to accomodate both sides of the drive thru as well as a walk-up window. Randy’s Donuts just has a feel of a “throwback” donut shop. From all the visible racks of donuts in the inside of the store to the outside with the colossal Randy’s Donut, it makes you want to just eat a dozen donuts while washing it down with a couple glasses of milk. I give it 4.5 donuts out of 5.
